taking baby steps to my goal

today was an interesting day
spoke to many many many people
started with singhui, then kelvin, then it was kevin leu's sharing
during supper spoke to shiyuan, kelvin again, jiang and for a brief time, alex
learnt and discovered

my thoughts, even without a penny

prior to today, after bfs and after the past few months, as the end of year 1 was approaching i was just thinking what i really wanted to achieve from school
i was getting sick of results that were neither here nor there
getting nowhere but lost

plus after talking to jason about how to really avoiding sinking into negative thoughts and allowing them to be the reason as to why i am not achieving the goals that i want to achieve
and how to truly get over them and stop it once and for all

he told me this, let's say today you need to do this thing that you have always thought and found challenging, would you doubt yourself and would you eventually do it? but what if today, your family was depending on you to do that in order to survive, would there be room for negative thoughts for self doubt for whatever?

we have to make success a must. whatever goal we want to achieve
make it so that theres one path to success one path that you will and must and would take to achieve and get to where you want to in life

so i was thinking about life, between school and business, between cip, cca achievements, beefing up my resume and being more committed in the business
how being caught in-between with an undefined priority is resulting in me getting nowhere, being stagnant, doubting myself, harming many people in the process

so what happened was i started thinking about stuff, i knew that i needed to have my own plan for my future
something that leon eekheng val wont be able to figure out for me
something that would be the thing that keeps me moving

a long term strategic plan, a path to focus on, a motivation from inside
a belief in myself
a change

after talking to singhui and kelvin and during debrief i realised many many things

From singhui
set expectations knowing the criteria for them
set measurable standards

that the marginal increase in effort in school might bring me an additional 1-2k income
but that same effort put into the business would actually and definitely bring you much more, maybe an additional 3-4k

i learnt too that there isnt really a tradeoff between resume and business since business would definitely put me ahead of my peers
business gives you both the hard and soft skills
gives you a chance to be in a managerial position unlike internships

and lastly it's probably not that i dont know what i want but i dont dare to fight for what i want
leading to being stuck in the middle, not knowing where to go
this is because my goal, is clouded by problems, obstacles, hiding places, shells, comfort zones for me to dodge and hide
Dare to fight for what you want

how you shouldnt have the 'see how' mentality

during kevin leu's sharing and debrief
i saw how he managed to overcome the many obstacles that life set for him
not letting other people tell you that you cannot achieve your dream

not waiting till it happens before you start to believe that you can, because if so, you really wont a
start making it happen, no one else is going to help you do that
the "WHO" in the equation is ultimately the one that determines your own fate

there is a kevin leu in each and everyone of us, an eagle waiting to take flight
call it out, believe in yourself

know who you want to become and focus on that, instead of focusing on who you are now
in life,, there isnt always second chances, give your all and change to become the person you hope to become
there is not negotiating conditions with success

from shiyuan
learning to enjoy school
using school to network. how? walking around school, posting on fb when hes free
importance and usefulness of building up knowledge of many things

why are you afraid? who are you to say that is the norm
what is it based on

why he is doing all these things including the biz
the difference between building yourself as compared to building your portfolio

from kelvin
i learnt what i want
i learnt how to prioritise, how to know and choose what really matters to me
i learnt who am i

kelvin made me realise one thing
my 'end goal' in life
what i am working hard for now and how everything i do now falls into place

he taught me to decide on my priorities with the end in mind
to make logical decisions based on that

people might not understand you
but as long as you know where youre headed

my end goal, would be to start and manage my own cafe, f&b
why so?
i want time freedom and financial freedom
to be able to have the ability to spend endless amounts of time with my family is the thing i am aiming for in my life
something that working would not give me

what is required for me to achieve that? i need something to support my f&b, a stable and passive income, so i have the time and the ability to support my business

which case is worse? graduating and starting work as an average joe or not being able to own my own cafe and needing to work for the next 30 years.
to me, i wouldnt mind the first but i definitely do not want the latter

my focus should undoubtedly be the business
but what about the small thought of being a highflyer in the corporate world
something that i want for ego, for fun
its something that i can pursue in the future
prioritize on what leads you to your end goal, put first what you can only do now

which is the best case that i hope but can do without

to convince myself logically
not saying that i would forsake school totally
definitely the best case would be to excel in both
but it the situation happens so that i have to choose between the 2
i know what i want

from jiang
i learnt that uni should be studying what you like, choose mods not according to whether i would do well, but according to preference, to the value i believe i might gain
i discovered that i should probably gain more exposure
i learnt how school and business can complement each other, how business gives you depth and school gives you breadth, school tells you there is more than one path to success
of how it isnt always about what the rest of the people do
i learnt to be proud of my achievements

internalizing the philosophy of success
bit by bit
this is why i love the business

i might not make any sense now to you you or you
