lets start updating my life man clarice
and i need to do my reflections for eagles as well so lets start
anyway dear blog,
it's now my summer holidays before year 2 begins again. let me tell you how this holiday was spent.
the start of the summer holidays was spent meeting up friends, old and new. it was really interesting and fun all at the same time. learnt from the most unexpected people and found many many old friendships.
particularly the meetup with x left an impression on me because of the lessons he taught me and how he has changed. i found that he was really different from other peers his age and i salute him for the courage to be different. Drawing parallels to people like jason, i realised that when i decided that i wanted to use inLife, or rather, EG, to become successful, i was starting on a path that many people would not chose to do, i was going to be different. to do so, i need to start thinking differently and acting differently. Instead of doing what singapore's system is best at, which is encouraging conformity, i had to get used to the fact that i think differently from my friends. previously when i met old friends, i try to talk to them like the clarice i used to be but i've come to realise that there is no reason why i should not show my friends my change, for the better in my opinion. If they like it, then its good, but if they don't, life still goes on.
Other events that really left and impact was that with liying, jiamin and lavanya. having not met for a long time, i was unsure how it would be like, afraid of it being awkward and all sorts of negative feelings. However these feelings were uncalled for. it felt somewhat miraculous that we hit it off well. hehe i love meeting old friends.
thereafter, i started working with glen and friends as a promoter for SPH Cats Classified. i started expecting it to be a good experience for me to widen my comfort zone as i had to talk to strangers everyday. however just after the first day it just didnt seem to be what i expected. getting rejected by 10 people in a row was not easy and is often demoralizing. I remember there was this day with gina at tanjong pagar, no one i approached stopped to help for a good half an hour and boy was i demoralized. i sat down and decided to give myself a break so i went to get a curry puff from old chang kee. maybe it was the energy from the puff or just food simply makes u feel better, i decided to try again after that and wow things got much better. slowly i cleared 5, then 10, then five more and eventually finished 35. That experience really taught be that what's important is not that you have experienced failures; what's more important is to stand up again after a failure and taking one step at a time to get back on your feet.
anyway the girls were such nice people. sad that we dont have a photo tgt! tracy yingying yanwah gina valerie glen :D
next was Kukup.
it was fun, thats all. was sick so couldnt really sing k but i did enjoy the feeling of having nothing to do everyday. waking up wasnt a chore since there was nothing to dread. it was just eating, sleeping, sightseeing, singing, gambling, watching movie, and all sorts of whatnots. note to self to not go for the massage there again! and its time to eat healthier ah D:
now im doing my internship at Schaeffler. nothing much to say about what i do there. the hours are crazy though, i report at 8.30 everyday. waking up at 6 everyday is not easy, especially if the earliest time i head to bed is 1am. Well, i'm not sure how i am going to survive the 7 weeks but i shall take it as a challenge. Was talking to eugene and he feels the same way too. going through shit only makes you stronger, maybe you might say we're sadistic but let me try. i will make it happen.
anyway the haze is terrible
hmm and last but definitely was the eagles session yesterday.
It feels weird to say this but somehow, eagles session always seem to answer the questions ringing in my head. Just yesterday, leon told me that nat feedbacked that i always seem to be very 'jip' when i talk to him. of course i was affected by what he said. so i went to ask leon how to solve that. initially the first thought that came to me was, 'aiya if thats the case then i shouldnt talk to him.' but i realised that that does not solve the problem. in the future many such people are going to come along and i should definitely learn how to handle such people.so i asked leon what to do, how does he get himself to treat him in the way that he should. and leon told me that, he just does what works. i was reminded of the 80-20 rule. 80% of people do what they like and the 20% do what is right. this totally applies in this instance. i might not like talking to nat in the way i should but if it works then i should just do it.
at the same time it was a wake up call. people would have that feeling if they don't see that you are someone to be respected, clarice you need to show people some results man. don't sink further. you can do it!
so anyway, as i was saying,
In summary, the session yesterday talked about a few things
1. Action Plan and Preparation: how a plan without action is just a useless plan and we need to Prepare for the time to take action.
2. Different kinds of people and the mindset we should have when we make decisions
3. Rapport, Understanding, Fanning, Closing
I was reflection which type of person I am. Of course we all hope to be the fourth but it starts somewhere. A good heart is important and it affects the kind of decisions people make
jason also reminded us of a simple value, to yin2 shui3 si1 yuan2. this was taught to us in prmary school.
people leave the business when they dont see results, just like in other areas of life.
but people also leave the business having seen good results.
who do we hope to be when our team as 100,000 people? what will you be like when you are successful?
Humility is his biggest secret
